A Brief History of Hot Takes from The Seinfeld Recap Podcast

The Seinfeld Recap Podcast, hosted by Rob Cesternino and Akiva Wienerkur, is closing in on episode 150 of Seinfeld. At the time of this writing, they have released 147 episodes.

With less than 40 episodes to go, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of the great “hot takes” that have come out of discussing Seinfeld for nearly 240 hours.

These hot takes come from both Akiva and Rob as well as the frequent emailers of the podcast. There’s a lot of great stuff in here.

Without further ado, here are the 22 hottest takes so far:

The Marine Biologist – Posted November 14, 2015

This episode features a short-lived co-host spot for Alex Chester. He said he was going to bring the hot takes. Although likely said in jest, he claimed the Apollo moon landings were fake and filmed in a basement in Hollywood.

Moment takes place around 1 hour and 16 minutes.

The Pie – Posted November 21, 2015

Emailer James’s hot take is that Elaine’s storylines and funniness level depend on who she is linked with in the story. The more zanny the character, like Puddy or J. Peterman, the better her storyline.

Akiva agrees, saying she is a product of her environment.

Moment takes place around 1 hour and 19 minutes.

The Fire – Posted December 19, 2015

Emailer and later podcast guest Amir writes in to say that Kramer’s idea for a coffee table book is in fact a good idea.

Moment takes place around 1 hour and 7 minutes.

The Couch – Posted February 6, 2016

Akiva talks about his hot take that we are now living in the hot take era. This may have started with the birth of Twitter. In the future, that’s what this time period will be known for, hot takes.

Moment takes place around 28 minutes.

Also in this episode, Akiva says that Twitter will not exist by the time this podcast is over.

Moment takes place around 50 minutes.

Akiva says he’d rather eat Poppie’s pizza even knowing his hygiene issues way before he’d eat Kramer’s cucumber pizza.

Moment takes place around 52 minutes.

Rob gets in on the hot take action and defends Poppie for not washing his hands saying that he’s part of an older generation, he’s from the old country. He’s not part of a generation that scrubs into work like some kind of brain surgeon.

Moment takes place around 1 hour and 11 minutes.

The Gymnast – Posted February 13, 2016

Chester writes in to ask whether other people take their shirt off while going number 2 in the bathroom insinuating that he takes his shirt off to make a poop. Rob and Akiva discuss whether this hot take is really the case.

Moment takes place around 1 hour and 31 minutes.
